Andrea Ferraris in Chain D.L.K.:

"I already knew the label by name but I'm actually new to Haeretici 7074, it should be a live recording but the sound is actually good and that's beyond doubt an official release. The only hint I've recognized on this release is the name of Niko Skorpio, I've seen he's put out several records (and he’s probably the label guy at Some Place Else) and his moniker is circulating from quite a while and it simultaneously bring me to the post-industrial panorama. Indeed this' an industrial release, dronic-dark ambient with a cold cut that probably gets hitched perfectly with the fact it has been recorded in Finland during the month of January. "Bythn et Silentium" starts slowly, it quietly increases till it overflows in the abundance of white noise of the second track which is more electronic oriented, they give more power to the cyclical loops till it all dies out. The last movement of this continuum (‘cause the whole recording has probably been made during a session without pauses) is more rhythmical and someway different from the rest of the cd but you definitely hear that's the same band. If you're into industrial music that's a good performance for sure: tight, cerebral but not anal as many other releases of the genre."

T300 in Heathen Harvest:

"Hæretici 7074 is a relatively new and obscure project, combining the creative minds of Ovro and the legendary Niko Skorpio. With Haeretici, Schismatici, Excommunicati, we are treated to a package that is as rewarding in artwork and imagery as anything else released this year. Haeretici 7074's main focus is actually performing live, bringing their unique ritual tones, and sometimes "death ambient" to the audience.

This three track opus begins with Bython Et Silentium, a quiet trance inducing number, which picks up significantly to introduce some hideously powerful bass, before quietening down again. Ritual Electronics at their best.

Nam Serpentum Magnificant is a ten minute piece, much higher in pitch than the previous track, and very drone-orientated. The intro to the track is followed by some ingenious synth loops, before going back to droning. This is devoid of much activity, but the general feel is that of distress and paranoia. Approaching the end of the track, it takes a dive towards power electronics once again, and we are exposed to something that sounds like Hypnoskull playing underwater, miles below you.

Huius Perversitatis Doctrina is genius. I've never heard anything like this. Foreign ritual vocals, sick noises and pounding drums. Close your eyes, It's like being carried across hot coals while being poked with spears by a dozen masked natives.

The real beauty with this release, is that it's presented Live. As a stand-alone dark ambient release it's successful anyway, but as a Live perfomance, this is on another plane of existence. Unnerving, unrelentless, and ingenious. Finland is proving once again that it is capable of delivering the goods over and over again. Recommended."

ANM in Aural Pressure

"Much as I hate to say this, but I've taken a bit of a shine to Mr Skorpio over these past couple of months. The music I've reviewed of his has left its mark on me in ways I never thought possible. A man whose fervent musical imagination seemingly knows no bounds. Does this constitute as ass kissing? I hope not. But if it does then so be it. I like Niko. And so will you after hearing this latest project of his.

Although this is not his alone. For Haeretici 7o74 is the combined talents of Niko and Ovro caught live in Tampere Finland in January of this year (that's 2006 in case you've forgotten). Ovro is an unknown quantity. Although she's released a couple of things to some critical acclaim, I'm totally in the dark over her music. She's a nice looking lass though. If that deems me a sexist then so be it. I am only speaking what I see after all. Hæretici, Schismatici, Excommunicati is the first release, on CDR, under this name for the duo. The future looks exceedingly bright if this is the standard of work they intend to keep putting out. Featuring three tracks, with a running time of just under 25 minutes, the music is set to a ritual / drone / trance / noise / dark ambient feel with frantic rhythmic and experimental overtones. Not forgetting the faint oriental and quasi religious elements that are also introduced and present. Thus the title of Hæretici, Schismatici, Excommunicati is explained. Or is it? Because trying to tie down the music is near impossible. It flies in different tangents and yet merges into an organic whole. With some recordings this stance is not without its problems. Alienation and indifference coming heavily into play. Not so here. The artists are astute enough to play to their strengths and keep the music continually evolving and engaging. Playing live has given the artists a freedom to explore these different musical avenues whilst interacting with the surroundings and the vibes from the audience. The performance an intimate experience for all concerned.

Hæretici, Schismatici, Excommunicati is a great release. Considering it was recorded live with no apparent overdubs makes it even greater still. Slightly dark in overtone, it must be said, but that shouldn't put you off. In fact this pervading sense of "something not quite right" works in its favour as it creates a recording richly textured and brimming with atmospheres. Although the stated intent of the artists is to keep recording live it would be interesting to hear what they could produce in the studio. I suspect the results would be dynamically mind-blowing if Hæretici, Schismatici, Excommunicati is anything to go by."

Jiituomas in Kuolleen Musiikin Yhdistys

"This ep, a bit over half an hour long, contains a Haeretici 7o74 show, recorded at the Syntesia club in Tampere, in January 2006. The band is a joint project of Niko Skorpio and Ovro, and is apparently still in the process of seeking its (current) style. The opening track, Bython et Silentium, is a restless ambient piece filled with droning and with a very organic sound. Behind those as a swirling set of disturbing, yet effective other sounds. He song evolves slowly into buzzing and wave patterns, from which the music then proceeds into the next track. Nam Serpentem Magnificant is thinner, and more squealing in a very narrow, treble-dominated way. Without a warning, it later on moves on to a softer buzz. The drones on it never completely disappear, even though they get muted and moved into a less important position in the mix. As the track goes into a long, clapping like segment, it becomes quite boring. Fortunately it eventually picks up rhythm again, and decently re-captures the listeners' attention before it ends. A clear, positive change in attention only takes place at the start of the third, final song, however. It begins with a call-to-prayer pattern that transforms the mood towards Middle East sounds. A new strength is found, even though the sound itself remains rather thin. It nevertheless feels like listening to something completely different from the way the disc started. This song, Huius Perversitatis Doctrina is catchy, yes, but nothing new. Bands like Aphelion already did similar stuff years ago.

The whole disc leaves a shattered, confusing impression. So, at least for now, it must be said that Haeretici 7o74 does not reach the same level of excellence as the artists' other recent works do."
